Foreign Language Teacher Training College
was founded in 1990. The same year it was selected by representatives of the European Union to be a multi-lingual and multi-functional centre of teacher training. Since then the College has been equipped and assisted as a part of the PHARE programme as well as by the Embassy of France, German Consulate, British Council and Goethe-Institut. It is a state school educating teachers of English, French and German and is supervised by the University of Wroclaw.
Students receive excellent education thanks to well-qualified staff supported by native speakers, modern equipment and the newest teaching materials and methods.
The College has established academic exchanges with other institutions of this type within Poland and abroad, for example German section students visit Oerlinghausen near Bielefield in Germany, and French section students visit Melun in France.
As one of few schools of this type the College puts out a periodical
Orbis Linguarum. Legnickie Rozprawy Filologiczne, which publishes scholars from Poland, Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Norway and the USA.
Within FLTTC there are two teaching programmes:
Both programmes offer a wide and attractive range of workshops in methodology, language courses, preparation for entrance, certificate and methodology exams.
English section
The English section consists of 13 – 15 teachers and 8 – 9 groups of students. The staff are highly qualified specialists teaching the following subjects:
Practical English, including such skills and competences as speaking, writing, reading, listening, grammar and vocabulary.
Methodology of English teaching, including Child Methodology, General Methodology, Theory of Learning and Teaching, Teaching Practicum and Teaching Observations
Philological Subjects, encompassing the following: Literature, History and Culture of Great Britain and the USA, Linguistics, History of English, Descriptive Grammar.
All subjects are taught in English so candidates to FLTTC should be competent at at least an intermediate level of English.
The teaching staff in the English section have always been supported by 2 –3 native speakers from the USA or Great Britain, which makes studying more authentic and effective.
During the three years of studying, students are offered a chance to master English at the proficiency level and learn how to teach English in an effective and attractive way.
Although a regular exchange with Great Britain has not been established yet, students can take advantage of scholarships in Britain, Sweden or Finland thanks to Socrates and Comenius programmes.
It is possible to improve your teaching skills as a variety of methodology workshops held regularly at FLTTC.
